Utah Summer Games 2012
This year my sisters and I decided to get a summer games basketball team together! The five of us included my older sisters Nikki, Mandi, Dani and then Kari and I. We knew we wanted to have maximum playing time and yet 5 would not be enough. Michelle Kelsch, her sister Laura, and Julie Peterson joined our team. We had to submit a team name so we called ourselves the "Shaheen Machines!" Hahaha!
Well, game time came around and lets just say we finished 4th! ...okay okay, there were only 4 teams. We lost every game! We were beat up! I lost a toe nail and we felt like we had been drug behind a train. We laughed and cried! JK! We did laugh though! We had the time of our lives and yet we were over joyous when the final game buzzer rang....."it's over....it's over" we celebrated!
Even though we didn't come out on top we hope to do it again...only next time we will get some post players. We were all guards and some of us had to play down in the key! :) I played a 3 guard most of the time and I've never played that position in my life. However, I did enjoy playing it!
Anyways, these are a few pictures of our team. Thanks to all of our supporters and my brother in law Russ (Mandi's husband) for coaching our team!
Special thanks to our proud parents who are such wonderful supporters and to my in-laws for driving down to watch. I loved it!
......Oh and P.S. We went to practice at Snow Canyon High and my brother in law Wade (Dani's husband) who coached Snow Canyons Girls Basketball team, visited with a gentleman who is on the radio and writes articles in the paper. He was curious what we were doing and Wade filled him in that the 5 of us sisters were playing in the games. This gentleman thought it was so cool and actually wrote an article about us in the paper. Such a nice article but quite embarrassing after such a triumphant losing streak! Hahaha!

Dixie chicks: 5 sisters team up with one goal in mind, Summer Games gold
by: Patrick Blake
ST. GEORGE –It’s a familiar story: A group of siblings, who were high school and college sports stars, get together to form their own “Dream Team,” joining forces to capitalize on their talents and perhaps win a local tournament or competition.
The Shaheens had this dream, just like many other families. But what makes this story unique is that the Shaheens are all sisters, and the dream has been on hold for years because many of the sisters were pregnant or off getting married. The Shaheen sisters, as they were known before they all were married, are finally getting to team up and play together in the Utah Summer Games.
And these are not your ordinary girls next door, either. These ladies are good. All of them starred on high school teams, notching state championships along the way. And three of the sisters went on to play college basketball. This is the first time the sisters have gotten to team up together to play in an organized tournament.
“We always wanted to play together, but one of us would be pregnant, or Mandi was living too far away because her husband is in the Air Force,” said sister No. 3, Dani Jensen, who happens to be the wife of Snow Canyon girls basketball coach Wade Jensen.
The women have been practicing for their Summer Games debut at Jensen’s SCHS gymnasium in anticipation of what they hope is a run to a gold medal.
Now for the introductions:
Nikki Basile, of St. George, played at Pine View High School and went on to play at Dixie State College. Mandi Brown, who now lives in Las Vegas, was the MVP of the 1993 state tournament as she helped lead the Pine View Panthers to a state championship. Brown went on to play at Southern Utah University and was an Honorable Mention All-American her senior year.
Dani Jensen, the middle of the five girls, is still living in St. George. Jensen helped the Lady Warriors win a state championship in 1998, a feat her husband duplicated this past season as head coach at Snow Canyon. Dani went on to play at SUU as well.
The final two sisters are twins. Kaeli Fowles of Cedar City and Kari Shaheen of St. George. Fowles and Shaheen both played at Snow Canyon High School. The sisters love to play ball and every time they have a chance to get together, whether it’s a holiday or a birthday party, they head right to a church or gym to play. Fresh off that state championship, one would think Wade Jensen would be a natural to coach the team. Not so, said wife Dani, with a gleam in her eye.
“He would, but could you imagine if he took me out?” she said. “That wouldn’t be good.”
Wade said he knows better than to get in this team’s way.
“I’m just here to get them a gym to practice in and cheer them on,” he said. “It’s going to be fun to watch. These girls can play.”
The sisters do have some help as well. Teaming up with the Shaheen sisters are St. George natives Michelle Kelsch, Julie Peterson and Amber Menasco. The focused team has been practicing at Snow Canyon High School and will start their Utah Summer Games experience Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Canyon View High School. The tournament goes through Saturday in Cedar City.

Little Driver Buddy
When we go to Ace Hardware Paisley loves to drive these little cars. She thinks it is the greatest and I swear kids think they really are driving! It's kind of sad when we have to leave and take her out of the little car!
12+ month old pictures
Paisley's 12+ month old pictures done by my once again oh so talented sister in law Megan! She is fabulous and I loved how these pictures turned out. Paisley was so ornery and cried and cried at first but we were able to calm her down a little bit and get her to smile. Her darling little romper was her Easter present from Grandma Deb & Grandpa Dean! It is so cute and worked perfect for pictures! These pics were taken a couple months ago but I forgot to post them!

Grandma Phyllis
We were able to stay with Grandma Shaheen and spend time with her in
Salina- in between Grandma Hatch's Viewing and Funeral! It was so nice
to see her and visit. It is always so much fun! We love you Grandma!

Grandma Lavee's Funeral
My dear Grandma Hatch passed away on June 10th 2012 at the age of 88!
She was one of the best Grandma's a girl could ask for. She made the
best candy and was one of the best cooks known to Man. Grandma was born
with some complications, one resulting in only one kidney. When her
kidney finally was giving out her kids sat in the hospital with her for
nearly a week watching her go in and out. It was truly one of the
toughest things they have gone through. They spent time lauging, crying
and reminiscing! They fell in love with their mother all over again. No
matter how much you watch someone suffer you are never truly ready to
let them go. I love you so
much Grandma and want to say Thank You for everything! You have given me
the Best mother in the world and for that I am eternally grateful!
Until we meet again.....
My Mom and Aunt Jeanette gave such a wonderful talk together and my Dad did a beautiful job dedicating Grandma's Grave. Aunt Sheila, Aunt Linda and Uncle Linden gave wonderful talks as well. The funeral was beautiful.

During the funeral my little nephew Luke was walking down the isle in
the back of the cultural hall waving to all the people. They smiled and
waved back. It was hilarious and oh so cute!
